Good news for those of you lucky enough to own an iPod as well as an Arcam Solo mini system - from now on you'll be able to seamlessly link the two together. In a clever usage of interface technology already built into the Solo, Arcam has developed the rLead which uses the dock connector found on the bottom of iPod to communicate directly with Solo.
The audio output is routed directly from the line level output of the iPod to the Solo using RCA plugs and the control of the iPod from the Solo remote control is enabled by the rLead connecting to the RS232 socket, which cleverly feeds text to the front panel display. The rLead also allows the iPod to be charged while connected using a USB plug.
The central control keys on the Solo operate the iPod in the same manner as the iPods own control wheel and listings of music by Artist, Genre, Album and Track are all available as well as feedback on transport controls such as Play, Stop Fast Forward and Rewind.
