The Sequel 54 Mk 2 phono pre-amp board is the essential device for high-output moving coil cartridges, offering an output of between 0.5 to 1mV and a matching impedance level of <120 Ohms. The Sequel 54 Mk 2 can not be used with medium-to-low output Moving Cartridge cartridges, as these require higher gain and a lower input impedance. 

The unit uses two gain staged using low-noise op-amps, while RIAA correction is conducted both actively and passively. The first gain stage is designed to match the MC cartridge's <120  Ohm impedance, adding relevant gain without changing the response of the frequency.

The second gain stage has been engineered to boost the level even further, and utilises active filtering within its feedback in order to de-emphasise the RIAA. This improves the overall accuracy of RIAA and subsequently improves the sound quality and sonic integrity of the unit entirely. The Sequel 40 (Mk 2) is built from E96 1% tolerance metal film resistors and 1% tolerance polypropylene WIMA capacitors.

In an effort to eradicate coupling capacitors that may negatively alter or adjust the sound, a servo circuit is used to block Direct Current from input to output, and roll-off low frequencies sensibly below 10Hz (which are unaudable anyway). This unit uses a no rumble filter in its design.
