Denon Cocoon Stream 501 network speaker
Denon's newer wireless alternative to the highly successful DSD Cocoon 500 completely removes physical docking functionality and is an entirely wireless dedicated audiophile sound system. Streaming is thanks to Apple's AirPlay, which connects your audio source to the Cocoon with ease, while retaining exceptional sound quality. The new Cocoon has no qualms or issues with streaming internet radio either. The system is able to search for stations swiftly, and enable you to listen to them in a high quality domain.
A USB connection on the back panel of the unit allows you to connect an Apple device for both charging and playback usage, while connecting an Android does give you the charging functionality - it will not playback media. The Cocoon Stream 501 has definitely been designed with Apple (and Apple's high standards) in mind.
The speaker does have an included remote control, but for those who prefer a cleaner and more easily accessable control panel - Denon have developed a Cocoon app, which is free for both Apple and Android devices and enables you to control the system in its intirety. The playback functions are neatly presented within the application and the app can aso search and stream internet radio stations, giving you the option to save your top three stations as preferred presets.
The Cocoon Stream allows you to access network storage devices on the mutual network, giving you the ability to access as much media as you need all from the speaker and it's app. If your Android device has a DLNA media player application, then you can use it to stream to the Cocoon across your home network.
