Musical Fidelity have listened to customers fedback on the original V-DAC and incorporated many of the worthwhile suggestions to create the new Musical Fidelity V-DAC II.
Well finished in it's anodised brushed aluminium extruded casework, it has a very solid build quality and also benefits from the excellent RF shielding properties of this construction. Inputs are at one end, and the stereo audio output at the other end, therminated with a pair of gold plated RCA phono sockets.
Inputs include both an optical and coaxial digital input, ideal for connecting CD players with a digital output, where the DAC can be upgraded by the use of the V-DAC MkII. An asynchronous USB input allows the much more stable and clean clock circuitry of the V-DAC II to control the flow of data between computer and DAC, thereby improving sound quality. All digital inputs are 24 bit with 96kHz upsampling - a signal lock LED indicates when a valid data-stream has been detected.
Internally a Burr Brown DSD1796 digital-to-analogue convertor chip performs precision audio conversion, whilst a Burr Brown SRC4392 handles asynchronous upsampling duties with aplomb.
On audition, thisn unit reveals extra levels of detail than heard previously, with a great delicacy of sound which can tame otherwise bright sounding systems. Musical instruments appear suspended in air on the sound stage with air and precision, making a listening experience to be savoured.
