Naim NAC 202 Preamplifier

The Naim NAC 202 pre-amplifier utilises the full width and height Naim alloy casework to screen the delicate electronic circuits inside from unwanted noise, electromagnetic finds and vibration.

Naim engineers have developed the NAC 202 recently, both in the areas of electronic audio circuitry and the mechanical isolation of the electronics from the listening environment. Multi-layered printed circuit board technology has allowed for a complete ground plane to improve the earthing of the audio circuits - the result is that the sound quality is even purer and noise free than ever before. Simultaneously, the star earthed printed circuit board is now suspended upon shock absorbing mounting points, allowing any ambient vibration to be filtered out before affecting the sensitive electronics through micro-phonic effects.

Volume control is achieved through a rotary control on the front panel - a high-quality ALPS blue stereo potentiometer lies behind the external volume control and is one of the most precise and high-quality components on the market. Although a balance control is not visible on the front panel, balance control is possible thanks to the internally mounted ALPS blue potentiometer - this is intelligently controlled by Naim's own software and microprocessor, which is only active during user's adjustments to the controls or selected inputs - under listening conditions, these digital circuits are in hibernate mode.

On the rear panel, six inputs are available via DIN or phono inputs. Stereo pre-amp outputs are also available on DIN connections, and nearby are power supply inputs to allow the NAC 202 to be powered by a Naim power amp or one of the Naim power supplies - FlatCap, Hi-Cap and NAPSC are all compatible, and will provide a noticeable upgrade in sound quality over and above the standard power amplifier power supply. A powered output is also provided to allow the Naim Stageline phono stage to be used with the NAC202, without any need for an external power supply.

The NAC 202 partners superbly well with either the NAP200 or NAP 155 XS.

Who is Naim?

Naim Audio has a special place in British audio, thanks to its founder and inspirational leader Julian Vereker, a hugely talented mechanical and electronic engineer with a passion for, amongst many things, music. Founded in 1973, Naim has always had a firm philosophy of music first, measurements second - each Naim product is extensively auditioned as part of the product development process to make sure that it delivers clear, emotional music-making ability. Naim products are designed to bring the closest facsimile of a live music event into your home listening environment, to give you maximum pleasure from your music collection.
