Project 1 Xpression Carbon UKX

Heinz Lichtenegger, the founder of ProJect Audio, developed and designed the original Project 1 in the early 1990s. Project 1 has since been extended and developed in many different forms, one of the most notable forms was the popular Xpression series. The latest incarnation of this model is the classily elegant 1 Xpression Carbon.

The Xpression Carbon is an improvement on its previous models in a number of ways. One of which is the set of brand new features that have never appeared on any Project turntable previously. Right down from the alluring finish to the audiophile-level technical care, every single aspect of this turntable has been attentively designed in an effort to deliver the greatest possible performance for its price range, which is the same philosophy the ProJect 1 was conceived from.

The Xpression Carbon utilises a one-piece carbon fibre tonearm. This is mounted in a newly designed and engineered heavy-weight assembly, inspired by the high-end evolution tonearms. This large support essentially isolates the tonearm and the plinth almost entirely, which irradicates any minor resonance sounds within the tonearm, letting only the original music signal to be taken to your amplifier. With the tonearm comes the new Ortofon 2m Silver, which a unique version of Ortofon's world-renowned 2M Red Cartridge, with silver spools in its finishing to generate the best possible signal.

The new AC motor design and DC power supply within the Xpression Carbon is a drastic benefit. The motor is entirely isolated from the main plinth which avoids the transferring of unwanted resonance and noises. The plinth and motor are isolated by means of two rubber grommets, which have been designed and created by Ortofon's highly experience rubber division. The motor rotates a sub-platter, which in turn drives the main platter. Included with the Xpression Carbon is both a felt and a cork mat, which allows you to tailor the sound perfectly to match both your ears, preferences and environment.

The UKX edition sees an upgrade to the platter, with an acrylic construction, as well as additional UK-specific finishes.+
Who is Project?

Project started in the hifi business designing and manufacturing affordable stereo turntables in the early 1990s, beginning with the entry-level Debut model. It was a great success, like all other turntables on the market at that time were at least  £100 more expensive, without offering a performance benefit. Project has gone on to extend the range of turntables they offer at all popular price points and performance levels, through midrange to high-end models.
