The Project DAC Box S USB is a high-quality Digital Analogue Converter with three switchable inputs allowing for multiple digital musical sources to be converted in a more convenient and better sounding way. By over-sampling the input signal, this small device produces a thorough and fluid sound performance.

The 'S' version of the DAC Box USB uses the same technology as its predecessor and has the same footprint. The only differences are in the thicker, more stylish front-plate, and the smaller power supply that helps the unit comply with new 1Watt Standby regulations outlined by the European Court.

Features:

• 3 Inputs (RCA, Toslink, USB)
• Manual switching via button
• 24bit/96kHz
• THD <0,005% (20Hz-20kHz)
• >95dB crosstalk

"Even by prevailing standards, the DAC Box USB is a tiddler at just 4 x 10 x 10cm."
"It's certainly not short of low-frequency presence, with the acoustic bass-line granted weight and good tonal variance."
"The midrange is spacious enough to give a singer some room to breathe, and treble is bright and clear without becoming particularly splashy and overbearing."

"...this 'DAC Box USB' is its most versatile and universal digital Box to date... it does accomodate three (USB, optical and coaxial) digital sources up to 24-bit/96kHz via S/PDIF and 48kHz via USB 1.1."
"...as my lab tests showed, low-level resolution via USB is actually marginally superior to the conventional S/PDIF inputs."
"Even the perennial bug-bear of digital audio - jitter - is lower via USB..."
"Affordable it may be, but the sound of the DAC Box USB is far from 'budget' in its rendering of acoustic space and detail."
"Its imaging is impressively precise too..."
"High-quality but affordable USB DACs are rather thin on the ground in our experience, so this new addition to Pro-Ject's 'Box Design' series is very welcome."

"Operation is perfectly straightforward, with the one button on the front cycling round the three inputs."
" Pro-Ject makes a point of this DAC being able to extract bit-perfect audio from your computer if you install ASIO drivers, available from the Pro-Ject website."
"...we found ourselves easily falling for the unit's general enthusiasm."
"Hooked up to a computer-based source, though, it makes a good deal of sense in the best tradition of fun-lovin' budget audio and in that case the S/PDIF inputs could be handy now and then. All-in-all, another useful Box!"
