The Phono Box RS is Project's flagship phono stage and features an ultra-low noise and distortion pre-amplifier design philosophy. This superlative performance is tempered with the ability to be fine-tweaked to enable the phono stage to match perfectly with a wide range of premium MM or MC turntable cartridges. The Phono Box RS has a special variable impedance control found at the front of the unit, this means that impedance can be adjusted while music is playing in order to find the optimum sound.

Some of the premium quality components found within the Phono Box RS include the SSM2019 pre-amp from Analogue Devices and Linear Technology's LT1010 high-current buffer stage. These high-quality parts and materials enable the Phono Box RS to offer a sound with extremely low levels of distortion or noise, it's very low output impedance means that it is not easily affected by the selection of interconnect cables being used with the machine.

The equalisation of the Phono Box RS is fully passive RIAA and DECCA and can be selected via the switches found on the front of the unit, alongside the output gain (XLR and RCA) and a quick mute function. Cartridge adjustment can be done using the dipswitch layout found to the rear of the unit on the back panel.

This unit offers fully balanced, dual-mono circuitry and both XLR and RCA inputs and outputs, earning it recognition in a wide variety of high-end systems.

Who is Project?

Project started in the hifi business designing and manufacturing affordable stereo turntables in the early 1990s, beginning with the entry-level Debut model. It was a great success, like all other turntables on the market at that time were at least  £100 more expensive, without offering a performance benefit. Project has extended the range of turntables they offer at all popular price points and performance levels, through midrange to high-end models.
