Project started in the hifi business designing and manufacturing affordable stereo turntables in the early 1990's, beginning with the entry level Debut model. It was a great success, as all other turntables on the market at that time were at least £100 more expensive, without offering a performance benefit. Project have gone on to extend the range of turntables they offer at all popular price points and performance levels, through midrange to high end models
Project's entry-level series consists of a variety of high quality, well-built turntables that have been truly optimised to bring your favourite vinyl records to life. The level of build quality and accuracy of sound reproduction that these turntable models are capable of is truly astonishing. Many lesser brands strive to achieve this level of performance in their intermediate/higher end models, let alone their entry level series.
The Primary from ProJect combines the strongest points of the company's Elemental and Essential II models to offer a superlative, high-fidelity sound with minimal complication. The Primary borrows the Elemental's 8.6" aluminium tonearm, designed with sapphire bearings to provide the best possible performance in regards to tracking. An Ortofon OM5E moving magnet cartridge is supplied as standard and the Primary comes with this cartridge already configured. This means that there is no need to set up tracking force or anti-skate during installation of the deck.
The motor uses a perimeter belt-drive system, with a low-vibration synchronous motor, controlled by an integrated regulator to ensure a stable speed. The Primary makes use of the Essential II's chassis layout, including the same high-quality MDF finish and neutral MDF platter, topped with a felt mat. Available in matte black, red or white finish.
