QED XT40 speaker cable

QED's Reference series is the penultimate range of interconnects in their extensive catalogue. Featuring an entirely new design concept, the cordage of the Reference models are designed first and foremost for low capacitance. This is because QED has identified this factor as being a significant player in the high fidelity listening experience, by retaining a low capacitance, sound signals are better looked after and allow for a more collected and detailed hifi performance.

The Reference range also utilises QED's 'Complementary Conductor Technology' to ensure a high-frequency detail, and their Analoc Technology to optimise signal integrity. All QED interconnects and cables feature a lifetime warranty, including the Reference series.

Great for budget and midrange hi-fi and AV systems, the QED XT40 delivers music in a very enjoyable way with tight controlled and deep bass, detailed but not overbearing treble and clean, clear midrange with plenty of body. Stereo images are conveyed with height, depth and width giving music a very live and natural quality.

QED XT40 speaker cable is designed to have very low resistance per metre with its 4mm² cross-sectional area and is easy to terminate due to its traditional shot-gun geometry and soft easy tear PVC outer jacket. It features QED X-Tube™ technology which obviates the skin effect (a plague of large cross-sectional area cables) by removing the centre of the conductor and placing it at the periphery of the electric field (acting towards the centre) which would otherwise create a larger self-inductance. In this way, the hollow central core at once eliminates the skin effect (thus maintaining a flat frequency.

response within the audio band) and reduces the expected self-inductance measurement of parallel conductors of this size and separation by half. At low frequencies, both X-Tube™ and conventional stranded/solid core speaker cables convey signals in a linear way. However, at high frequencies, X-Tube™ retains a near-linear signal transfer, whereas the conventional cables fail to conduct uniformly across the entire conductor area.

In standard speaker cables at high frequencies, current flow is highest at the periphery with rapidly deteriorating current density towards the centre of the conductor. The effect of this is to reduce the actual cross-sectional area of the cable at 15kHz to less than 75% of that at low frequencies. This results in higher distortion and compromises the performance of the cable. X-Tube™ with poly core technology exhibits much lower self-inductance and is, therefore, less affected by this problem. The pole core technology reduces loop inductance to levels only achievable using more costly and difficult to terminate cables. The result is more high-frequency detail, less distortion and greater performance.
