Ruark, a family-owned, British company, are nothing but passionate about sound and design. Their mission is to design products that appeal to the heart, as much as the head. Products they claim they are 'proud to own'
The MR1 Bluetooth, desktop speakers, live up to their mission. The MR1s use 20w of Class-AB amplification and have a 75mm mid/bass unit with a 20mm tweeter in each of the enclosures. Ruark make both of the drive units, using the last CAD software to minimise distortion. The speakers use neodymium magnets and a loudness function exists to cater for low-level listening
The Bluetooth system on the MR1s is compatible with both A2DP and apt-X, but there's also a 3.5mm stereo line-in port and a subwoofer output integrated. A compact remote control handset with an auto-standby function is included, but you can also use Ruark's BackPack rechargeable battery pack for portable (and outdoor) listening.
The cabinets are hand-crafted and available in a number finishes, including a rich walnut veneer, a soft-white or soft-black lacquer and stand just 17cm tall. Ruark says the MR1s are also designed to be used as extension speakers for the R2i and £4i systems, but can also be used to improve the sound of televisions.
This means the MR1 speakers are ideal for a number of uses, including computer systems, home speakers (for TV) or as an extension to the R2i/R4i models from Ruark. Independently, however, they are capable of providing the basis of a full music system, all you have to do is connect a turtntable, CD player, etc and with Bluetooth and aptX built-in, the audio can be wirelessly played and streamed through the MR1 with sound similar to a CD.
