Wharfedale Jade 5 floorstanding loudspeakers

First previewed at the 2011 What Hifi Sound and Vision show in Bristol, the new Wharfedale Jade 5 stereo speakers are an audiophile quality floorstanding 3-way Aperiodic speaker which are ideally used in a stereo hifi system or can be combined with other models in the Jade range to create a high performance home cinema speaker package.

Wharfedale engineers have looked at every element of the design, construction and materials of the Jade loudspeaker range using computer aided tools to maximise audio performance. The familiar curved and multi-braced MDF cabinet has been subject to a re-design by using Crystalam, a laminated material which is inert, low in resonance and perfectly suited to reducing colouration of the sound. The cabinets are beautifully finished in either a choice of natural wood veneers or piano gloss finish.


The drive units of the Jade range have also been reviewed - bass drivers have an ultra-linear magnet/ voice-coil system which is very lenear and low in distortion. The woven glass/ carbon fibre has natural self damping whilst being very stiff and responsive, allowing you to hear the full detail and dynamics in the music. Midrange drivers are constructed with an aluminium/ pulp cone material of very low mass but high stiffness, again making the speaker very detailed and dynamic, but never over-bright or fatiguing. A new 25mm aluminium tweeter is fitted to the Jade range, giving it spacious stereo imaging and shimmering high frequencies. A phase linear passive crossover routes the correct frequencies to each driver with zero phase lag/ lead, so that the wavefront reaching the listener is coherent for optimum sound balance.
