The Reference 1 is a high-quality standmount loudspeaker, designed, engineered and assembled by Acoustic Energy to impeccable standards with both build and sound integrity at the forefront of their design ethos. The cabinet utilises a constrained laminate layer construction which allows for the best possible resonance dampening. A uniquely designed 5mm MDF/3mm high-density rubber/5mm MDF sandwich material is used throughout the enclosure. This design minimises potential parasitic resonance and noise from the cabinet externally. 

Internally, the speaker makes use of a huge under-hung motor assembly for its bass/midrange driver, allowing for the best possible linear accuracy and control. This motor system is composed of twin-wound aluminium voice-coils. These coils are thermally bonded to the aluminium cone, resulting in a truly minimal distortion and long-throw pistonic accuracy. The tweeter assembly is the acclaimed Vifa Ring radiator tweeter, but upgraded and manipulated to Acoustic Energy's own unique design and specification. The tweeter is coupled to the company's DTX Lens assembly for a better in-room response and a wider, more detailed level of dispersion and stereo imaging.

Establishing their reputation in the pro-audio studio market with the AE1 studio monitor with a basic painted enclosure, Acoustic Energy then released a domestic version of the superb AE1 in a more acceptable wood veneer cabinet. The AE1 was received by the world's reviewers with open arms, and the company then focussed more strongly on a series of impressive loudspeaker designs covering both entry-level and high-end markets. Recently the AE1 has been updated and revised further, to create a small monitor loudspeaker fit for the digital age, and the new Radiance range satisfies both stereo music enthusiasts and home cinema fans alike with it's 5.1 and 7.1 AV speaker packages.
