The Gem is Chord Electronics stand-alone Bluetooth DAC within the company's high renowned Chordette range. The Gem is designed to flawlessly integrate within your existing high fidelity system and allow you to play your favourite songs from a Bluetooth compatible mobile phone, tablet, PDA or personal computer. The USB port feature allows you to connect a PC to the unit for direct streaming of audio on a hard-wired connection.

Many of todays portable devices such as phones, laptops and tablets, utilise a Bluetooth codec called Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (usually shortened down to A2DP). Chord have developed and engaged their own Bluetooth receiver within the Gem, and through this custom receiver, the unit is able to extract and decrypt digital audio information that's normally unused in lesser receivers. It then inputs this information directly into the high quality DAC. 

The USB connection allows the unit to be connected to a personal computer with ease. The Gem appears as an audio device by the computer's operating system. Any track played from the PC to the Chordette Gem is then digitally decoded and converted into a high fidelity quality signal for optimum playback. Bluetooth and USB inputs are easily interchangeable, thanks to a simple switch located to the rear of the unit
