Elac BS 142 JET Loudspeakers

The BS-142 JET from Elac is an impressive standmout loudspeaker, that utilises an innovative two-way design, which strangeley makes use of a ribbon tweeter, as opposed to a generic fabric tweeter dome, found in other speakers at the same price-range. The ribbon tweeter is said to offer a smoother, more rounded treble and high end than you would find from speakers that use other construction methods.

Ribbon diaphragms are much thinner in stature, which in-turn makes them a lighter and less dense material than cloth or metallic materials normally found in speaker tweeter construction. Elac use a specialised ribbon-tweeter design, specific to them called 'JET'. This tweeter system is something that has been described as 'legendary' and has seen the BS-142 win awards across the board.

A pair of screw-type terminals are located on the back of the unit, where both forked terminals and standard bananna plugs can be used, but the speakers do not support bi-wiring or bi-amping. The speakers are housed within a simply-designed rectangular box, with an impressive bass port to the rear of the units. The woofer within the speakers is steeped with innovation, and uses a sandwich-type cone where the outer layer conceals the end of the voice coil.
