Marantz PM6006 Integrated Amplifier - UK Edition
For the UK Editions Of the PM6006 and the CD6006 the audio tuning team has revisited the amp and CD player, improving components throughout to deliver even better sound, and designing a new Special UK Edition logo incorporating the Union Flag to set them apart from the standard models.
The PM6006 Special edition UK from Marantz builds upon the outstanding quality and high standards set by its predecessor, the PM6006. Offering more detail, a wider soundstage, refined detail and punchier bass. The pre-amp and power-amp sections of the 6006 are identical to the earlier model, following a strong 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy - these sections feature discrete components with no IC used within the signal path, ensuring a top quality level of amplification.
The PM6006 is upgraded for peak current at the amplifier stage, which allows for the same level of power and prowess as with the previous model, but a much more refined and detail sound quality. The 6006 features an integrated DAC, so your digital sources (including televisions) are supported to a superior standard, with the ability to decode digital signals up to 24bit/192kHz.
The digital section is fully shielded by an additional metal housing, guaranteeing no interference between the digital and analogue stages of the amplifier. The 6006 features five line-level audio inputs (including phono/turntable), two pairs of gold-plated speaker terminals (run two rooms at once) and 3 digital inputs.
Marantz CD6006 CD Player - UK Edition
The CD6006 builds upon the technological feats of the 6005 but sees the integration of superior components and a more refined circuit layout when compared to its award-winning predecessor. Sometimes, the finest details make the largest impact, and with the implementation of more rigid feed - resonance is drastically reduced resulting in a more dynamic sound response.
An oversized power supply feeds both the digital and analogue circuitry of the CD player, where the high-quality CS4398 DAC chipset handles all the digital to analogue conversion, which then outputs to the gold-plated RCA phono connections.
The CD6006 also caters to USB sources, such as Apple devices or USB memory drives.
Wharfedale Diamond 11.1 Bookshelf Loudspeakers
The latest incarnation of the Diamond series sees significant improvements throughout its design, from construction itself right through to the materials used. The series is composed of eight different models; three standmount units and three floorstanders with a pair of centre channel speakers for use with home theatre systems. The most immediately visible change is the return to the curved cabinet design that was seen in the Diamond 9 and Diamond 10 series, models that achieved What Hif's Product of the Year award in 2005 and 2009 respectively.
The latest Diamond 11 series features a new driver design built in-house by Wharfedale to offer a rich and dynamic performance reminiscent of much more expensive speakers, despite the speaker series' affordable price bracket. The bass/midrange woofers utilise large magnet designs with special ribbed baskets and advanced suspension working flawlessly alongside the Kevlar cone design. These woofers are tempered with a high-performing textile dome tweeter, which uses an over-sized ceramic magnet and a specifically shaped rear chamber for the best possible stereo imaging and high-frequency sound reproduction.
The cabinet itself is built from a sandwich of different density woods, resulting in the Diamond series excellent acoustic characteristics while also offering a more robust and luxurious finish. The curved cabinet is not just for aesthetic purposes though. While elegant in appearance, the curved profile allows for standing waves and resonances to be directed in such a way that the loudspeaker is able to perform to a superior level.
The bass-loading aspect of the speaker is not found on the front or back like traditional speaker cabinets, but instead the Diamond series incorporates Wharfedale's intelligent slot-loaded air distribution port, found on the bottom face of the speaker cabinet, allows for a more dynamic and articulately presented bass response without being too over-powering or 'woolly' sounding.
The Diamond 11.1 is the entry point bookshelf/standmount within the series, sitting above the smaller 11.0 bookshelf model and the larger 11.2, the 11.1 is the first in the series to feature the curved cabinet design. Its mid-size profile allows for larger woofers and subsequently more air to be pushed at a more precise level, guaranteeing a dynamic, punchy and rich sound from a relatively compact box when compared to the larger standmount units it competes with.
