Naim Audio ND555 Network Streamer
Naim Audio has a special place in British audio, thanks to its founder and inspirational leader Julian Vereker, a hugely talented mechanical and electronic engineer with a passion for, amongst many things, music. Founded in 1973, Naim has always had a firm philosophy of music first, measurements second - each Naim product is extensively auditioned as part of the product development process to make sure that it delivers clear, emotional music-making ability.
Naim products are designed to bring the closest facsimile of a live music event into your home listening environment, to give you maximum pleasure from your music collection. Many of the Naim products are evolutions of previous designs, incorporating sometimes quite small changes to the mechanical or electronic design - however, these incremental changes make a large overall improvement in the music performance of each product.
The ND555 features a 40-bit SHARC processor with an advanced signal processor with advanced signal processing, a suspended brass sub-chassis to isolate sound-critical circuits from vibrations and the best external power Naim have ever made.
The ND555 uses Naim's new innovative streaming platform. Some of the key features on the ND555 is: streaming, AirPlay, built-in Chromecast, Bluetooth (apt x HD), Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Roon compatibility, Internet Radio and multi-room streaming - alongside digital and USB inputs for conventional connections; this makes the ND555 one the most versatile streamers to match Naim's integrated amplifiers.
The streaming section of the ND555 uses Naim's latest network card which features low-noise, high-speed low voltage differential signalling to route the digital audio signal. The benefits of having such a high-speed signalling are that it makes it capable of decoding all HD audio formats up to 32 bits/384kHz or DSD128. The Data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP to an outstanding 40-bit accuracy before it's fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-to-analogue converter. The development of the new streaming platform was one of Naim's biggest projects, three years it took to create a system that could make the most of online services such as TIDAL, Spotify whilst adding future-proof flexibility through Chromecast built-in.
There are several ways that you can control the ND555. The Naim App for iOS and Android gives you complete control over an individual or multiple Naim products. You can access all your playlist and even free browse any tracks using built-in TIDAL or Spotify. There are also a vast amount of internet radio stations also built into the TIDAL app if that is your personal preference. You can also sync several Naim players for multi-room playback. The app also controls Naim's Uniti Core music server, allowing you to avoid having two separate apps and it also allows you to update your system wirelessly with a single tap of a button, keeping it very simplistic for easier use.
For those who would prefer a more laid-back experience, the ND555 comes with a premium metal Zigbee remote. This remote requires no line of sight to the player, so you can take control whatever the direction you're facing. The front panel features a 5-inch colour display presenting album artwork as well as all the track information (length and ALbum) in crisp detail, and there are keys for most commonly used functions including standby and input selection.
Naim App
The Nova can be controlled via Naim's app. Once loaded, there will be a 'Rooms' page, find the Nova and you are then ready to browse. The app will come with Tidal (high res streaming app), giving you the ability to search for any song you desire. If streaming songs aren't your personal preference, you can browse over hundreds of internet radio stations or if you've already got a Spotify account, you can use Spotify Connect to the Atom and listen to all your songs from any playlist.
