Rega Planar 10 Turntable

Rega has used a no-compromise approach to their new Planar 10. Using the most advanced materials and technologies that they can. The Planar 10 is their highest performing and best sounding consumer turntable to date.

In the early stages of development, Rega decided that instead of an evolution of the older RP10 turntable, the new Planar 10 should encapsulate the essence of their ultimate turntable, the Naiad. The Planar 10 has successfully brought the world-class, premium materials and technologies used in the Naiad to a much wider market, at a more accessible price point.

The gap between Rega's RP10 and the Naiad has been narrowed greatly, using the most advanced, exotic materials, carefully selected to reduce mass and improve rigidity. The P10 uses all-new innovations in the hub bearing, sub-platter, motor and drive belt design to achieve ultimate performance.

The new Planar 10 is now the third turntable from Rega to use their latest technology, the ultra-lightweight Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core, developed by the aerospace industry to be a supremely lightweight yet rigid material. This material is sandwiched between two layers of high-pressure laminate, an exceptionally thin and rigid material. This combination has resulted in a skeletal plinth that weighs 30% less than the original RP10 while being significantly more rigid.

As with all of Rega's turntables, the Planar 10 has been designed with lightweight and rigidity at heart. The super lightweight plinth, ceramic top brace and phenolic resin bottom brace make the turntable incredibly rigid and stiff while remaining incredibly light. This rigid plinth design prevents unwanted resonance and energy absorption which could add unwanted distortions to the music. The lightweight of the whole turntable assembly helps to reduce unwanted energy such as the motor or bearing noise from reaching the sensitive tonearm and cartridge, which would affect performance.

Rega has spent over three years researching a new manufacturing process for their new RB3000 tonearm, to improve accuracy, resulting in a micron perfect fit. This new tonearm benefits from having very few mechanical joints, using the stiffest materials in all critical areas. The tolerances of the new RB3000 tonearm are so tight that no adhesive is used throughout the construction. Their new low mass, precision engineered vertical bearing assembly benefits from the same tight tolerance approach, resulting in a friction-free movement with absolutely no unwanted play or movement.

The Planar 10 uses a single piece machined aluminium sub-platter and hardened tool steel spindle, inside a custom brass housing which, like the rest of the turntables components, is designed to reduce vibrations and unwanted potential energy. Atop this beautifully designed sub-platter, sits a custom ceramic, flywheel effect platter. This platter is formed using a ceramic oxide powder which has been compressed, fired and diamond cut with extreme precision and care. This platter is turned with great precision and accuracy by the latest version of Rega's low noise 24v, asynchronous, vibration-free motor assembly which has been mounted from the bottom, achieving greater vibration isolation. This technique has been taken directly from Rega's Naiad turntable. Each motor is hand-tuned to match its own custom-built P10 power supply, delivering the ultimate in motor control stability. The motor and platter are connected via Rega's new EBLT drive belts. Constructed from a bespoke new rubber compound and engineered to be perfectly round and dimensionally accurate to provide flawless speed stability.

The Planar 10 comes with Rega's new stylish, removable, single-piece dust cover. Designed to look beautiful and to remove the temptation to keep the lid 'raised up' during playback, which greatly reduces performance. The new dust cover keeps your turntable free from dust and allows the music to be heard as intended once removed.
