REL 212SE Subwoofer

The REL 212SE is the most powerful and agile subwoofer from REL. Designed for larger systems and rooms for the superior state of the are speakers to spring into full voice.

With a belief in quality first, overpower and boom the 212SE offers the speed and control needed for top end systems. The 212SE was engineered to not only make your heart pound and walls shake but restore midrange warmth and harmonic structure while providing a powerful, rich low-end. The design of the 212SE means it offers a perfect answer for high-end systems, whether that's a high-end 2-channel, grand rooms and dedicated theatres, it will help maximize larger state of the art speakers so you are sure to get the very best from your set up.

The 212SE features twin Continuous Cast Alloy Bass Engines which produce the highest output single-box solution REL offer. They have doubled up on the Continuous Cast Alloy Bass Engines that bring critical acclaim to Serie S. Altered slightly for this twin front-firing configuration, these twin actives are responsible for 212SE's incredible speed and tactility.

Continuous Cast Alloy Cones from REL reduce moving mass while maintaining rigidity, producing far more speed and precision than previous models and range designs. The 212SE features twin long-stroke 12" bass engines partnered with the two matching 12" passives provide the speed and quality of a REL with power never felt before. This combination offers the driven surface area of twin 17" drivers in a cabinet just 16" wide.

As mentioned the 212SE uses two matching Continuous Cast Alloy passives that are stiff, lightweight and incredibly well behaved. these two passives offer the performance you would expect from variable ratio driver size, the passive comes to life as more power and deeper bass is demanded generally expanding the capabilities of the active engines.

The passives work with the active engines to offer a deep floor-crawling bass that makes the room shudder from the down-firing passive along with the wrap around "atmospheric" bass that adds air and shimmer to the sound from the second passive on the rear above the amplifier panel. Coupling with either the rear wall or the rear corner of a room allows for bass to develop exceedingly long wavefronts and adds an easy and effortless quality unique to single-box designs.

Beyond the proprietary drivers, the performance of a REL is determined by their unique input filters and amplifiers. 212SE uses a simple filter-type that is very fast - about 8 milliseconds in group delay - to cross out unwanted higher frequencies to their driver. A seamless blending of RELs with the main speakers is thanks to the speed and gentle crossover slopes offered by this. They do not include a high pass filter to cross out bass from the main speaker because this generally has more of a negative effect producing more unwanted effects than the minor benefits.

212SE’s power amplifier is a powerful NextGen3 1,000W (1,700 peak) digital amplifier. This Herculean design allows each driver to output over 110 dB with ease–power enough to drive very large rooms to very high outputs.

212SE is also compatible with the REL LongBow which permits very fast, uncompressed bass to be sent wirelessly within the same room approximately 45 feet (somewhat dependent upon room clutter). REL has selected an uncompressed format as it results in natural, quick delivery compared with conventional wi-fi or Bluetooth systems. Because it is a REL, we developed LongBow with both high level (or low level with crossover intact) AND .1 channel delivery so that REL Theatre Reference performance can be maintained even when using our wireless delivery system.

Who is REL?

REL subwoofers are engineered to deliver deep, powerful bass in both stereo and multi-channel systems. Even full range loudspeakers can often not extend to the lowest bass frequencies, which reduces the impact and involvement for the listener in both music and movie playback.
