Rega are a specialist hifi manufacturer based in Essex, UK and are renowned for developing and constructing some of the most highly regarded turntables (as well as cartridges and tonearms), electronics and loudspeakers available on the hifi market today. Rega were founded in 1973, and have honed their craft over many years of being a leading brand in every category they put a product to.
While Rega are renowned for building some of the best turntable models on the market, the company have also developed an extensive and highly acclaimed reputation in the design and engineering of quality hifi separates. Rega's range of hifi amplifiers and CD players are designed and engineered around their different turntable, phonostage and loudspeaker models to form a complete family, staying true to the Rega sound signature and quality of build. Rega components will work with systems and separates from other bands, but perform at their best when accompanied with other Rega products.
The 'Ear' headphone amplifier features much of the same design principles and technologies that can be found with the company's critically acclaimed Brio-R amplifier, including the same newly developed surface mount PCB layout. The Ear makes use of an enhanced version of the Brio-R power amplifier's circuitry, complete with a low-noise and fully regulated power supply in order to drastically reduce potential noise. This micro-acoustic level of noise is brought down even further with the use of an external mains transformer. The Ear operates in Class A at normal listening levels.
Hi Fi News reviews the Rega Ear headphone amplifier:
'The Rega Ear is lovely, in so many ways. It is beautifully made, stylish and has all the facilities you really need, plus a delightful sound that stirs the soul regardless of whatever music you put through it. Wonderfully expansive and big hearted, it makes listening a pleasure. Tonally it's slightly on the warm side, so suits poor quality sources down to the ground - even an iPad sounds good via the Rega!' - January 2014.
