Bowers & Wilkins recently announced the newest, and most advanced member of their headphone family. The P7's are set to launch some-time this month, and are the first over-ear model released by the premium speaker/headphone manufacturer.
The P7's are similar in appearance to their other P-siblings (P3 and P5 on-ear models), but with larger ear-cups. Reviews proclaim that the P7's boast an exceedingly luxurious build quality, with firm-grip headband and ear cup traits - all the while, not compromising comfortability. According to Bowers & Wilkins, the P7 makes use of a specially designed dual-cavity construction, which helps the ear-pads to mold to the specific features of the wearer's head and ears. The P7's also apparently maintain a consistent volume of air between the drive unit and the surface of the ear at both sides of the wearer's head. This is to enhance the stereofield and help the listener to achieve the best possible sound from the headphones.
Portability has been considered, and while they may not fit in your pocket as snugly as the P3 and P5 models do, the P7's are easily folded and placed into their allocated, and included, carry-case. Both an Apple-dedicated cable (complete with volume control and microphone) and a standard cable are included, which makes these headphones great for home-listening, and on-the-go, commute-listening.
Due to technological advances with the way the drive-units have been designed, B&W have made these headphones with a tighter bass response, a more defined vocal touch, and an exceptional sense of space, balance and detail across the entire frequency range. Bowers & Wilkins say that in order to save space within a typical headphone encasement, the diaphragm needs to play two different roles of both the sound generator, and the suspension system. Engineers at Bowers & Wilkins have made a headphone driver that functions more like the driver found within a hifi speaker, with the diaphragm focused entirely on the role of generating sound.
