Bowers & Wilkins CWM 7.5 S2 In-Wall Loudspeaker

The CWM7.5 shares the acoustic configuration of the 707 S2 and like its sibling, it houses a 130mm (5in) bass/mid-range Continuum cone driver plus a 25mm (1in) Carbon Dome tweeter, coupled to a forward-firing FlowportTM for an outstanding bass response from a relatively small footprint. It has a critically formed baffle constructed from glass-reinforced ABS plus its own integrated back box, ensuring retrofittable installation plus optimum performance. It’s an outstanding performer when used in stereo or multi-room installations, and is equally at home as the rear speaker in a larger theatre application.

The Carbon Dome is made in two sections. The front portion is a 30-micron aluminium dome that has been stiffened by a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating of carbon. The second section is a 300-micron carbon ring that has been profiled to match the Press Release form of the main dome. The result is the best-performing ‘non-Diamond’ tweeter that Bowers & Wilkins has ever produced. Innovation and high-end performance extend to the revolutionary Continuum midrange driver. The Continuum cone’s design is based on the concept of optimised and controlled flexibility. This helps it avoid the abrupt transition from pistonic to break-up mode behaviour that can drastically impair the openness and neutrality of a conventional drive unit.

Deployed in the new CI700 Series in both FST-style three-way and traditional two-way midrange versions, Continuum is the cleanest and most transparent midrange cone material Bowers & Wilkins has ever used. It reveals details in music and movies that conventional cone materials simply can’t uncover. A similar uplift in bass performance stems from the newAerofoilprofilebasscones. Originally developed for the 800 Series Diamond range and subsequently adapted for use in the 700 Series range of conventional floorstanding and centre-channel loudspeakers, Aerofoil profile bass cones use paper rather than carbon-fibre skins in this implementation.

The composite core within the cone’s variable profile is now EPSrather than the syntactic foam in the 800 Series Diamond products. Performance remains much as before, with low-distortion, accurate bass free from the colouration that usually affects bass drive units. The combination of the three technologies, alongside the countless hours of tuning by the very best acoustic engineers in the business, is a range of in-wall and ceiling loudspeakers that has to be heard to be believed. And although the new CI700 Series offers a significant increase in performance, every speaker in the new series has been designed to fit into existing Bowers & Wilkins cut-out sizes, allowing a simple upgrade path for customers who bought models from the original range.

Priced Individually, Per Speaker

Who are Bowers and Wilkins?

Bowers & Wilkins are a company that needs very little introduction, having been constructing some of the world's most critically acclaimed loudspeaker and headphone models for half of a decade. Starting at the entry-level 600 S2 series, through to the 700 S2 high-end series and up to the 800 Diamond series and flagship Nautilus model. These different series of loudspeakers have been praised as the superior listening experience in both two-channel hifi/music listening and in multi-channel home theatre applications, having claimed a vast multitude of awards in both categories. A Bowers speaker can be easily recognised by the signature yellow Aramid Fibre midrange cone, which can be found with their 600 and CM series with the 800 Series opting for a silver 'continuum' cone.

Bowers & Wilkins' highly acclaimed CM series was one of the company's most important loudspeaker ranges. Combining elegant design with outstanding sonic performance and available in a range of luxurious finishes, CM was positively received by the masses at both the consumer level and by critics and reviews. The 700 S2 series builds upon the exceptionally high standard set by CM and raises the bar higher than ever as a class-leading range of audiophile loudspeakers.
