The Ekco EV55SE combines modern remote control functionality, high power and great looks with classic velvety sound quality that only valves can produce. Designed by audio guru Peter Comeau, the EV55SE has five line level inputs with selection possible by front panel controls or infra red remote. Two sets of loudspeaker output terminals are provided, allowing for ease of bi-wiring, or an additional set of speakers in a different room - usefully, speaker A or B can be selected from the front panel or remote control.
A generous 55 watts per channel is yielded in class AB Ultralinear mode, which lowers output impedance and gives a deep, solid bass response, with huge dynamic potential, ideal for larger rooms or a high level listening session. For quieter listening, slide the bias switch to 'triode' mode and experience the lush, enveloping sound of pure class A, where 28 watts are available.
Commonly available audiophile valves have been used to ease replacement in due course, such as the well regarded KT88 pentode.
Styled in the classic manner with a painted, folded steel chassis, perforated metal cages around the valves for safety, and luxurious wooded side cheeks, the EV55SE will form the heart of many audiophile systems for years to come.

Element
The KT88 is a beam tetrode vacuum tube that fits a standard eight-pin ceramic octal socket; designed specifically for audiophile amplification, it is one of the most popular tubes in its class and is capable of handling very high plate voltages up to 800V. A pair of KT88 in push-pull Class AB fixed bias has a maximum output of up to 55W at low distortion.
Amplification
Working in Class AB Push-Pull Operation, the EV55SE is fitted with a switch that allows it to change from Triode mode, producing 28W RMS per channel, into Ultralinear mode producing 55W RMS per channel. In Ultralinear mode the output impedance is lowered to offer a damping factor about twice that achieved with a triode, distortion is lowered to approach the ultimate achieved with a triode tube, and the power output is increased to near the maximum available from pentodes.
Variety
The EV55SE comes with dual speaker output options tailored for audiophiles who prefer to use more than one pair of loudspeaker setup combination for their system, or to facilitate bi-wiring. It also includes a special remote that allows volume control anywhere inside a room.
Elegance
Protective grilles finished with high-temp black paint protect the valve tubes while the sides of the chassis are fitted with matched pairs of handcrafted solid wood panels (deep Louro Preto) in piano gloss finish adding to the classy and elegant feel of the valve amplifier
