For those music lovers wanting a compact, high-performance integrated amplifier of moderate power output but great flexibility, look no further than the Naim Nait 5si. The Naim Nait range has always been associated with excellent sound quality at an affordable price, and the latest 5si design continues that tradition.

Power output is a real-world 60W per channel, up from 50W of the previous model, capable of driving most speakers, even those designs with lower impedance. Five analogue line-level inputs are provided for CD, Tape loop, Tuner and AV which have a pass-through unity gain aspect to allow the front left and right channels of your surround sound to be handled by the Nait 5si. A front panel 6.35mm socket enables you to connect your headphones easily. All inputs are via phono sockets, and both the CD and Tuner inputs can be connected via 5-pin DIN for the best possible sound quality and ground integrity.

Internally, build quality and the component choice are to the usual high Naim standards, featuring oversized low noise/hum Talema toroidal transformer, quad BHC 10000uF reservoir smoothing capacitors for dynamic, engaging sound quality and surface mount components enabling short signal paths and minimal wiring. Each input is electronically isolated via wet contact reed relays hermetically sealed in a dual-in-line package, avoiding contact contamination over time.

Control of the Nait 5si is simplified by the infrared remote control supplied, which allows input selection and volume adjustment from the comfort of your listening position. Aesthetically the zinc/ aluminium diecast casework is finished in a matte black finish, giving an attractive, understated appearance. A perfect match to the Naim CD5si CD player, the combination is capable of very enjoyable music-making in union with your choice of quality loudspeakers.

Naim Audio ND5 XS 2 Network Streamer

The ND5 XS 2 uses Naim's new innovative streaming platform. Some of the key features on the ND5 XS 2 is: streaming, AirPlay, built-in Chromecast, Bluetooth (apt x HD), Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Roon compatibility, Internet Radio and multi-room streaming - alongside digital and USB inputs for conventional connections; this makes the ND5 XS 2 one the most versatile streamers to match Naim's integrated amplifiers.

The Technology & Craft

The streaming section of the ND5 XS 2 uses Naim's latest network card which features low-noise, high-speed low voltage differential signalling to route the digital audio signal. The benefits of having such high-speed signalling are that it makes it capable of decoding all HD audio formats up to 32 bits/384kHz or DSD128. The Data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP to an outstanding 40-bit accuracy before it's fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-to-analogue converter. The development of the new streaming platform was one of Naim's biggest projects, three years it took to create a system that could make the most of online services such as TIDAL, and Spotify whilst adding future-proof flexibility through Chromecast built-in.
