N10/2 HiFi Choice Recommended - Melco Audio

"Potent, open and engaging sound; build; impressively forgiving"

Outstanding Product Award – ELECTROCOMPANIET.COM

"Choose your cliché, especially ‘good things come in small packages’. The prodigy1 is such a clever all-rounder that I now understand why it was a smash hit in Munich. It does everything you’d want at the size and price, provided you site it with care. As I said above, I’ve been looking for a small speaker just above budget/ entry-level, and the prodigy1 standmount entirely fits the bill. I cannot praise it too highly"

The smaller prodigy loudspeaker is a supreme compact standmount/bookshelf design, ideal for small to medium-sized rooms, yet capable of a rich, dynamic sound from a diminutive form.

It’s easy to see and hear that it’s closely related to our compact nearfield monitors, a reference in recording and broadcast facilities worldwide: the prodigy1 is more than capable of resolving detail that puts you in touch with the original performance – no matter the size.

The sweet, open top end and natural midrange bring you vivid vocals and instrumental timbres, with a wide, focused soundstage and nimble, cohesive presentation to draw you into the music and make you smile. And small though the speaker may be, it still contains a full-size Advanced Transmission Line and our Laminair technology, that delivers deep, fast, hard-hitting bass.

The smooth silk black finish will suit any room, with optional sculpted grilles available if required, and the prodigy1 has been designed to match well with everything from modest amplification to high-end, high-power systems.

The prodigy1 offers exceptional clarity while taking up minimal space and can be used on a stand or furniture. Good quality high-mass stands are the solution to realise their optimum performance as they will position them at the ideal height and provide improved stability.

ATL Technology

One of the keys to our legendary natural, uncoloured sound is our Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) bass-loading. ATL uses energy generated by the bass unit in a much more intelligent and efficient way than speaker designs based on ported or sealed boxes. Our Laminair airflow technology further enhances ATL and improves definition, and timing and eradicates unwanted air noise.

Running In

When loudspeakers are new they will take time to reach their full potential. It is often debated whether any solid-state equipment, such as CD players or transistor-based power amplifiers change with use, but the characteristics of mechanical devices such as loudspeakers do alter and improve their performance significantly after a short ‘running in’ period.
The science is simple; as the soft material surrounding the dome or woofer cone is flexed it will eventually reach a point where it has optimum compliance allowing the drive unit to move more freely. This translates to greater accuracy
and speed of attack in the bass region and the mid and high frequency produces a far more vivid audio picture. This ‘running in’ period takes approximately 50 hours of normal use.

Speaker positioning

With their unique ATLTM Advanced Transmission Line design, wide dispersion, ultra-low distortion and smooth bass roll-off, PMC loudspeakers are more forgiving of difficult room conditions and placement constraints than conventional designs
so you will be able to achieve a superb sound throughout the room with little effort. We do encourage you to spend some time experimenting in your own room in order to achieve the very best results, remembering that small changes in
location can often influence system performance.
Room shape, size, construction and interior decoration vary immensely and therefore influence the sound in different ways. The following guidelines are suggestions for the starting point to locate your new speakers. Fine-tuning of their positioning can start from here

Who is PMC?

Founded in 1991 by Peter Thomas of the BBC and Adrian Loader of FWO Bauch. The combination of knowledge and a life-long passion for music led to the production of PMC’s first product, the BB5-A, an active main studio monitor. This design was snapped up by the BBC Maida Vale and Metropolis Mastering and remains the world’s reference, used by Prince, Stevie Wonder’s Wonderland Studio, Hospital HDTV Broadcast London and renowned classical labels such as Decca and Harmonia Mundi. Many of today’s movie themes have been crafted using PMC, by such eminent composers as Henry Jackman, Thomas Newman, Tyler Bates and John Debney.
