Wharfedale Evo 5.1 Bookshelf speakers
The Wharfedale EVO 5.1 bookshelf speakers redefine expectations for compact high-performance audio. As the smallest entry in the EVO 5 Series, they deliver sound quality that surpasses their size and price, incorporating the same premium engineering and acoustic precision as their larger counterparts.
A successor to the acclaimed EVO 4.1, the EVO 5.1 features an all-new cabinet design, improved driver components, and a sleek, modern aesthetic. Whether used in a stereo setup or part of a home theatre system, these speakers offer impressive dynamics, refined detail, and a rich, engaging sound within a space-conscious footprint.
Key Features
- 2-way standmount design
- slot-loaded bass reflex
- 25-100 Watt recommended amp power
- New AMT (Air Motion Transformer) high-frequency unit
- Acoustic damping frame (ResoFrame™)
- SLPP (Slot Loaded Profiled Port) bass reflex design
Crisp High Frequencies with Advanced AMT Tweeter
At the core of the EVO 5.1’s standout performance is Wharfedale’s latest AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter—an advanced high-frequency driver known for its fast, accurate response and minimal distortion. By using a pleated diaphragm instead of a traditional dome, the AMT design moves air more efficiently, resulting in superior clarity.
This updated tweeter is now larger at 35x70mm, enhancing both efficiency and sound dispersion. The result is an extended treble that remains clear and detailed even at off-axis listening positions—ideal for smaller rooms or varied seating arrangements.
Acoustic Innovations: SilentWeave™ and ResoFrame™
To ensure cleaner high-frequency performance, Wharfedale incorporates SilentWeave™—a proprietary cotton-felt composite—behind the AMT tweeter to absorb internal reflections and reduce colouration. Meanwhile, the front baffle’s visible ResoFrame™, crafted from a vibration-damping elastomer, helps control driver resonance for a smoother sonic output.
A supplemental damping ring specifically targets lower-treble resonances in the AMT tweeter, resulting in refined highs without the harshness that can plague less sophisticated designs.
Responsive Mid/Bass Driver with ResoSeal™ Technology
The EVO 5.1 adopts a two-way layout, pairing the AMT tweeter with a 130mm woven Kevlar mid/bass cone. Known for its strength and low weight, Kevlar enables punchy, accurate bass alongside an expressive midrange. Wharfedale’s ResoSeal™—a lightweight elastomer ring mounted behind the driver—further reduces unwanted resonance and enhances vocal clarity.
Together, these elements deliver a balanced, full-bodied sound with tight low-end control and naturally warm vocals that make the music come alive.
SLPP Bass Reflex System: Powerful Bass from a Small Speaker
To extend low-frequency response without sacrificing compactness, the EVO 5.1 features Wharfedale’s SLPP (Slot Loaded Profiled Port) bass system. Rather than a conventional rear port, it uses a downward-firing slot built into the speaker’s base plinth, releasing airflow to the rear and sides.
This design reduces turbulence, improves bass articulation, and allows for more flexible placement—on shelves, stands, or close to walls—without negatively impacting sound quality.
Premium Build, Sophisticated Design
The EVO 5.1 speakers blend refined craftsmanship with acoustic integrity. Compared to their EVO 4.1 predecessors, they boast a larger cabinet for deeper bass and improved internal volume. Constructed from layered, resonance-damping wood, the enclosure is built to suppress vibration and preserve audio purity.
Available in a choice of luxurious finishes—Walnut, Black, White, or the new Lunar Grey—the EVO 5.1 speakers offer timeless appeal. Their elegant design and compact form make them an ideal fit for modern or traditional interiors alike, delivering both style and substance in equal measure.
