Any seasoned home cinema buyer will know that the mid-priced AV Receiver market is a strongly competitive area, with all of the major manufacturers looking for a slice of the market - the RXV675 is Yamaha's entry into the race for supremacy in 2013, and it looks like it has more than covered all of the bases like a thoroughbred.
Plenty of power is on tap with this 7.2 channel model, with 105 Watts per channel available into 8 ohm speakers (most common impedance) or 150 Watts into 4 ohms - either way, it is plenty of power and more than enough for even the largest cinema rooms. The power amplifiers are a fully discrete design, meaning no chips or IC's are used only transistors, resistors and capacitors, giving a much more musical performance. A zone 2 allows a pair of speakers in a second room to play music, which is very useful for a kitchen or study area.
Six HDMI inputs are on offer (one front panel mounted, ideal for quick connection to games consoles) and one HDMI out, all are 3 D/ 4K upscaling compatible with audio return channel, meaning you don't need to connect an optical cable from the TV to the Receiver for sound. HD audio sound tracks are decoded from Blu-Ray disc or any other HD video source to DTS HD Master Audio or Dolby True HD. All internal Burr Brown DAC's are 192kHz / 24 bit resolution which will make the most of all digital music files, and especially lossless types such as FLAC and WAV.
Any receiver at this price point has to offer a wide range of networking functionality these days, and the 675 does not disappoint - an Ethernet connection on the rear panel is a gateway to your home network, sharing all of the media you have on PC's, NAS drive or internet radio with your home cinema system. Not only that, but Napster and Airplay are also included, so you are spoilt for choice regarding music sources.
Yamaha's well known YPAO automatically adjusts the level of each speaker channel to suit both the seating position and room acoustics, so you can be assured of the optimum sound when viewing movies or listening to music.
MHL (mobile high definition link) is a simple front panel connection which allows HD audio or video content from your Smart phone, and also charges the mobile device for the best sound quality possible.
AV Controller App for iDevices or Android, allows you to control the RXV675 completely - selecting which zone will play, inputs, volume control, artist playing and much more. It's free to download and easy to use, and is available for both Android and iOS operating systems.
