A popular demonstration combination in HiFi Gear has been the Rega Elicit amplifier, Rega Planar 6 turntable with the Exact moving magnet cartridge and the KEF LS50 meta compact loudspeaker. This combo really brings life to your vinyl playback, offering an incredibly open, dynamic sound. Using the Elicit's internal moving magnet phono stage allows easy connection to the Planar 6. The package comes supplied with a 3m pair of Chord Clearway speaker cables terminated with ohmic banana plugs to allow easy fitting between the amp and speakers. This package is regularly on demo in our Hereford shop.

What does this package include?

1x Rega Planar 6 Turntable with Exact MM Cartridge

1x Rega Elicit Mk5 Amplifier

1x Pair KEF LS50 Meta Loudspeakers

The all-new Rega Elicit MK5 stereo integrated amplifier is the latest version of Rega's Elicit amplifier originally launched in 1990, taking what was already a great amplifier and building on it. Housed in our latest custom case to match the rest of the Rega range, the new MK5 builds on previous Rega designs by using our multi-award-winning Class A/B power amplifier circuit to deliver a powerful 105 W per channel into 8 Ω loads (127 W into 6 Ω). Our engineers have taken great care to incorporate a high-quality MM phono stage, the headphone input socket has been integrated such that the speaker switching is performed by the output mute relay so as not to obstruct the signal path. Our engineers have incorporated a new design Rega DAC offering digital connectivity and greater flexibility with a variety of other products.

The Elicit MK5 now shares other design features taken directly from the highly acclaimed Aethos amplifier. You will find the same discrete FET-based pre-amplifier circuit, plus an Alps volume potentiometer has been introduced to further improve sonic and technical performance. As you would expect, special attention has been paid to the selection of key audio components. Discrete circuitry, high-quality relays, polypropylene capacitors, and Sanken output transistors are used throughout the design.

Instruction manual available - Rega Elicit MK5 amplifier

The Elicit MK5 amplifier is an incredibly capable piece of kit. If you provide it with an on-par quality signal the performance you can get is class-leading at its price point. We at Hifi gear have had fantastic results with a variety of speakers and sources. One of our favourite combos with this amp was the Rega Saturn CD player, Planar 6 turntable and the PMC Twenty5 23i

Listening to one of my favourite albums, Audioslave self-titled 1st album on vinyl really shows what the Elicit can do.  Chris Cornell's vocals are punchy and visceral, from the powerful performance on Cochise to the moody and soulful Like a stone. Throughout playback, the bass is tight and clean even when pushed hard. The Elicit is no doubt punchy but still manages delicacy when needed, during I am the highway the detail is fluid and dynamic and gives me goosebumps. The best one-word description I can give to the Elicit is engaging. Whether it's arena-sized rock or a stand-alone acoustic gig it never fails to impress.

The Planar 6 aims to reproduce your vinyl as accurately as possible. Rega has engineered every aspect of this turntable to extract as much detail from the vinyl surface as possible. Advanced materials and engineering solutions have been used throughout the design to ensure the greatest level of performance. The Neo PSU offers electronic speed change, advanced anti-vibration control and user-adjustable electronic fine speed adjustment only found on the RP10 until now.

The Rega Planar 6 is built around the massive success of the RP10 and RP8 turntables. It is the first new Rega turntable to be constructed with Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core plinth (an ultra-lightweight material developed for the aerospace industry). This material is sandwiched between a newly developed HPL (high-pressure laminate). HPL is incredibly thin whilst extremely rigid and is presented in Rega's stunning Polaris matt grey finished with high-gloss polymer black edge trim.

The Planar 6 now benefits from a machined single-piece aluminium sub-platter, a new 24v motor hand-tuned and matched to its own NEO power supply and a custom drive pulley fitted with our upgrade drive belt as standard.

The Neo PSU uses the RP10 DSP (digital signal processing) generator built upon a high-stability crystal. The DSP generator will divide the accurate signal from the crystal to the exact frequency required to turn the platter at the selected speed. The DSP generator will also produce a near-perfect sinusoidal waveform to drive the motor. This, along with an efficient drive amplifier, generates a 24V AC balanced signal of less than 0.15% distortion, which is completely unaffected by any changes in the mains/line voltage and conditions. This then drives the turntable anti-vibration circuit, which is situated beneath the turntable.

The new white finish comes supplied with a clear lid, dual layer clear glass platter, with White gloss plinth edges.

The brand new KEF LS50 Meta, the predecessor to the original LS50 turned out to be a very successful speaker in a lot of departments. The new Meta takes you to a new revolutionary metamaterial absorption technology which has a rather complex, maze-like structure which helps to eliminate any undesirable soundwave reflections from the rear of the driver, this technology results in a much rich and purer sound, making it sound more natural. The previous LS50s was one of our favourites in the shop, in fact, one of our staff members went and brought a pair for his own system. They sounded incredible and looked the part, so we expect the new Meta to sound just as good.

The price is marginally higher than the previous LS50 so they now have to compete with other speakers around this price point, these stay on point with the similar-looking KEF LSX wireless speakers but now have to go up against speakers from other manufacturers, it's a good thing KEF know how to make a speaker stand out. With a new LS50 comes a new wireless version of it, the KEF LS50 Wireless 2, see our listing for this speaker here.

We believe that this speaker has a lot of potential with all sorts of systems, mainly for those who already have an eye for music, or those who are potentially just starting out with a larger budget, you can put these speakers in any sort of environment and even add them to your own home-theatre system if you're looking for a more dynamic approach to music or movies.
